Homemade Bake Beans or BBQ Beans

Barbecue Kidney Beans
 
2 tablespoons bacon dripplings or shortening
1 lb ground beef
1 medium green pepper, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
1 cup chopped celery
2 tablespoons flour
1/2 cup catsup
1/2 cup red wine
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire
2 teaspoons chili powder
2 teaspoons salt
1- pound can kidney beans, drained
 
  1. Melt bacon dripplings or shortening in large skillet or dutch oven. Sautee beff, green pepper, onion and celery over medium heat, stirring frequently, until beef is browned.
  2. Blend in flour; stir in all remaining ingredients except beans. Bring to a boil; cover; simmer for 1 hour; stirring occasionally.
  3. Add beans; cover; simmer for 10 minutes longer.
